Mandatory P.E. Hits a Roadblock

TALLAHASSEE - Mandatory P.E. for elementary students has stalled in the Legislature because of a debate over the price tag. The P.E. bills would require elementary school students to have 150 minutes of physical education each week, a breakdown of about 30 minutes per day.

In terms of funding, the issue is whether more P.E. coaches have to be hired, more professional development is needed and to what extent non-P.E. teachers can be utilized for this initiative. It is not clear how this will impact our school district.
